 Unemployment rate for NYC (5 boroughs)
increased to 5.3% from 4.9% and 5.0% a year
ago (5 Boroughs – 5.2%, 4.6%, & 4.8%)
 Job Growth
 Private Sector added 14,500 jobs up (+1.6%)

 Non-farm jobs up (0.1%)

Most Jobs Added…
 Professional & Business Services (+9,300)
 Gains in professional, scientific and technical services, especially legal services
 Financial Activities
 Gains in finance and insurance, particularly securities and commodity contracts
 Leisure & Hospitality
 Gains in most component industries, with gains strongest in accommodation and food services.
 Trade, Transportation & Utilities
 Gains were concentrated in retail trade, particularly food and beverage stores
 Health & Education
 Seasonal employment reductions at many private colleges and universities, reflecting the end of
the school year, overshadowed a slight gain in the health care and social assistance job count.
 Government & Other Services
 Overall public sector employment decreased seasonally, as public colleges and universities
reduced staffing levels
 Information
 Gains were centered in ISPs, web search portals, and data processing services
 Manufacturing
 Gains focused in durable goods, especially computer and electronic product manufacturing
