ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Prepared by:Vatsala

HUMAN-COMPUTER ASSOCIATION:
Humans are dependent on computers in the sense:

Regular use of mobile phones ATM machines Digital cameras Grocery store scanners PCs Microwaves Automobiles

EMERGENCE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE:

Computers possess: A high speed of data transmission Unlimited memory space

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: It is the ability of computer programs to solve complex problems by application of processes that are analogous to human reasoning processes. Today AI is used in: Business Defence Medical Engineering

HISTORY:
Interest from early times. Independent successful attempts made after World War II. Era of AI started after 1950, age of digital computers. Turning Test

WORKING:
Basic idea of AI problem solving is

simple though its execution is complicated.

Doesnt have a generalised analytical ability. Can solve only programmed problems.

AUTOMATION:
Concept that describe how machine mimic human behavior.

EXPERT SYSTEMS:
These are the knowledge intensive programs that solve problems in a domain that requires considerable amount of technical expertise.

Branches:

Logical AI Search Pattern Recognition Representation Inference Common Sense Learning Planning Epistemology Ontology Heuristics Genetic Programming

APPLICATIONS:

ROBOTICS:
Study of science and technology of general purpose programmable machine systems. Study of designing, building and applying robots to various walks of life.

FUZZY LOGIC:
A mathematical tools for dealing with imprecise data and problems that have many solutions rather than one. Answer lies between completely true and completely false.

NUERAL NETWORKS:
Brain: composed of interconnected neurons Robots help in understanding neuron connections.

Additional Applications:

Game Playing Speech Recognition Understanding Natural Language Computer Vision Heuristic Classification

FUTURE:
Robots will move out of industry. AI research is useful for understanding how natural intelligence works. Beneficial in manual labor, health care and communications. Human integrated with machines.

Gradual Process

ADVANTAGES:
Improved quality of life. Robots move out of industry to daily lives. Medical sciences.

LIMITATIONS:
Programmed responses. No emotions. No reasoning power.

CONCLUSION:
Highly advantageous Can be considered as great tool for improving the quality of life.
