 Soone Monday morning ,Tom lay in bed. He
began to think how to stay at home away from
school. He was not ill. He wanted to make
some excuse4 to stay at home .He thought of
discovering5 some sign of pain in his stomach.
But soon signs6 grew weak. Then he thought
of his upper tooth which was loose7. He did
not like to use the loose tooth as a starter. He
feared his aunt would pull it out. He thought
he would keep the tooth safe for the present.

 Then he remembered8 the doctor’s words. They were
said about a certain9 thing. That laid up a patient for
two or three weeks and threatened to make him lose
a finger. So he lay down under the sheets with sore10
toe .He started crying with a great spirit. He wanted
to attract the attention of his brother Sid who was
sleeping nearby .Sid continued to sleep. He was not
aware11 of Tom’s pain

 She told Tom to stop that nonsense and get out
of bed. On hearing this Tom stopped crying
and the pain disappeared15 from his toe. He felt
a bit foolish. He told Polly that his toe hurt so
much that he forgot his toothache. Aunt Polly
then examined16 his loose tooth .she ordered
Mary to get her silk thread and a piece of fire.

END SHOW DIFFICULT WORDS

 Tom requested his aunt not to pull out his tooth
as it did not pain. He also told her that he did
not want to stay away from the school. Aunt
Polly told tom that he had behaved in a
shameful17 manner.

END SHOW DIFFICULT WORDS

In the meantime the things for taking out the
loose tooth were brought .Aunt Polly tied one
end of the silk thread to Tom’s tooth with a
loop18. She tied the other end to the bed-post.
She suddenly19 took the pan of burning coal
very near the face .The tooth hung loose by the
