A true Smart Home is one that seeks to take full advantage of Smart technology within a wider, yet

focused, specification allowing service providers and

occupiers to benefit in many ways - from convenience and better living standards to energy saving and device communication. The house is also economical.

Automatic Lightening
In this system whenever a person enters a room the light automatically turns on

and when the person moves out the light turns off.

Functioning
For this we have used a simple on and off circuit.
There is a wire at the back of the door. When the person pushes the door the wire comes in contact with another wire present on the wall. This completes the circuit and the bulb glows.

When the person comes out and closes the door the wire detaches and the bulb stops
glowing.

Regular Energy Consumption Monitoring

This system gives hour by hour details of electricity consumption by different appliances in different rooms of the house.

This helps us to diagnose the wastage of electricity in the house and accordingly take necessary steps to reduce the wastage.

Solar Water Heating

A black tank with glass covering is placed in east direction.

Scientific Principle Used:

Black color is the best absorber of heat. The
container receives the light directly from the sun. The black walls absorb the light energy of the sun. Due to the presence of glass greenhouse effect takes place. The heat of the sun is not allowed to move out. This heats the water.

Light Sensitive Bulb

It is often observed that lights of backyard, car sheds ,storehouse etc
remain switched on by mistake even during daytime. This results in wastage of lot of electricity. So we have used a light sensitive bulb in our car shed. When there is dim light the bulb automatically switches on and when bright light falls on it ,it switches off.

Functioning
Light dependent resistor(LDR) is used to sense the ambient light level to switch the triac on or off. When light falls on the LDR,

its resistance becomes so low that the voltage

drop across it is negligible and the voltage at pin2 of the IC is little less than that of the supply.

Rainwater harvesting

Grey water harvesting

Rainwater Harvesting
Rainwater harvesting is the accumulating and storing, of rainwater. It has been used to provide drinking water, water for livestock, water for irrigation or to refill aquifers in a process called groundwater recharge.

There are two types of rainwater harvesting system Rooftop

Groundwater recharge

Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting

Rooftop Rain Water Harvesting is the technique through which rain water is captured from the roof catchments and stored in reservoirs.

Groundwater Recharge
Here the collected water is taken below the ground to recharge ground water

Greywater Harvesting
It refers to using of wastewater from kitchen and
bathroom for various purposes such as irrigation.

This method reduces wastage of water in irrigation of kitchen garden.

Natural Cooling System

Thermal chimney effect

hollow bricks
Location of windows in east west direction Location of trees in leeward direction

Thermal Chimney
The solar chimney consists of a black-painted chimney
or basement. During the day solar energy heats the chimney and the air within it, creating an updraft of air in the chimney. The suction created at the chimney's base can be used to ventilate and cool the building below

. Generally trees are planted at leeward side.

Use of Hollow Bricks

Hollow bricks are used to maintain temperature of the room.

Working principle Air is a bad conductor of heat. During summers hollow bricks containing air do not allow heat from outside to enter the room. During winters they dont allow the heat from the room to go out.

In both these cases it maintains the temperature of the room.

Security System
Burglar alarm Fire alarm

Burglar Alarm
It is an electronic device which starts ringing
when the copper plate is touched. This has been placed under the doormat of the main gate of the house.

Functioning
The circuit comprises of two stages.
The first stage having t1 and t2 transistors forms the trigger circuit. When the copper plate is touched, the transistort1 conducts and produces feeble pulses which are amplified by t2. The second circuit is an audio oscillator made by t3 and t4.The signal from the trigger part becomes an audio signal which is converted into sound by the loudspeaker.

Circuit Diagram

Fire alarm
This alarm starts ringing in case of fire.

FunctioningHere, an IC based fire alarm is described. This circuit is made around 555 IC (timer). A reverse biased germanium diode is used here as heat sensor. At room temperature the diode has very high reverse resistance ( over 10 k ohm). No effect is produced by it on transistor T1 which conducts and beeps the reset pin 4 of IC -1 at ground level and so the alarm does not sound. When temperature in the vicinity of diode D1 (the sensor) increases in case of fire, the reverse resistance of D1 drops. At about 70 degree centigrade its resistance drops to a value below 1 k ohm. This stops T1s conduction, the Ics reset pin 4 becomes positive through resistor R2,which sounds the alarm

Some New Features

Energy saving utensils. Insulation of pipes and location inside bricks. Planting of mosquito repellent plants.

Energy Saving Utensil

We have created a special type of utensil

which saves a lot of LPG.

Functioning
The utensil has a 2in1 structure. It contains

two utensils piled over on another. So at the

same time you can perform cooking of two substances. It utilizes the heat from the steam of the utensil which is placed below.

For Eg-You can make tea and boil milk at

the same time.

Mosquito Repellent Plants

Some plants have natural mosquito repellent properties like marigold, garlic, neem, tulsi. We have planted these trees outside the house to reduce mosquitoes.

Plumbing Design To Provide Cool Water in Summer

In our house we have made our tank with light colors. Also the pipes are placed inside the house and are insulated so that the heat from outside does not reach the water and heat it.
