Project: Internationalisation & ICT

 Reasons
 High on the strategic UU agenda
“education should be internationally oriented”
 ICT and internationalisation are not combined on a
structural level (HOOP, 2004)
 Too many opportunities ICT has to offer not used yet
 Goal: to let internationalisation benefit from the
(pedagogical) possibilities ICT can provide
 Financed and approved by the central board

Internationalisation- definition

 Focus: education (not research)

 International education differs from national
education:
 Intercultural character
 Content that isn’t country-specific
 Language
 Different kinds:
 Students from Utrecht abroad
 Foreign students in Utrecht
 Internationalisation ‘ @t home’

Conclusions

 Internationalisation and ICT: two separate

worlds bring them closer to each other
 Use the educational, communicative and
informative functions of ICT!
 Get internationalisation & ICT higher on
the agenda, both on the UU-level as the
faculty-level
 There is a need for a platform to exchange
knowledge and experiences
