INTRODUCTION
Research --- an academic activity and as such the term

should be used in a technical sense

According to Clifford Woody research comprises defining

and redefining problems, formulating hypothesis or suggested solutions; collecting, organizing and evaluating data; making deductions and reaching conclusions; and at last carefully testing conclusions to determine whether they fit the formulating hypothesis
In short, search for knowledge through objective and

systematic method of finding solution to a problem is research

IDENTIFICATION AND ANALYZING

First and most crucial step of research process Researcher should possesses
intellect and insight to isolate and understand the specific factors giving rise to difficulty

He should proceed step by step in locating the research problem

STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED
Step 1 : Determining field of research Step 2 : Researcher should develop mastery on area or it should be field of his specialization Step 3 : Should review researches conducted in area to know recent trend and studies in area Step 4: Should consider the priority field of study Step 5: Should draw an analogy and insight in identifying a problem Step 6 : Should pin-point specific aspect of problem to be investigated

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

Factors to be considered for selection of research problem
external and personal criteria

Criteria for selection are as follows:

Novelty and avoidance of unnecessary duplication Importance for the field represented and implementation Interest, intellectual curiosity and drive Availability of data and method Special equipment and working conditions Sponsorship and administrative cooperation Costs and returns Time factor

DEFINING A PROBLEM
Means :

To pin-point problem or defining problem to reach core of problem

i.e. threadbare analysis

Need of defining a problem

Precautions are to be taken in identifying the problem

Steps in defining a problem

NEED OF DEFINING - PROBLEM

Purpose -Defining a problem
sets direction of study
reveals methodology or procedure of the study

help the researcher to control subjectivity or biases of the researcher

suggests and specifies the variables to be taken up into investigation through a problem involved into so many variables makes research work practicable

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN IDENTIFYING PROBLEM

Precautions consideration for identifying

problem:
words used for defining a problem should have a single meaning statement of problem must be brief but comprehensive assumptions are to be recognized for the study

problem should have practical importance in field of Education

definition or the statement of problem should have certain rationale

STEPS IN DEFINING A PROBLEM

Steps in defining a problem:
Researcher should have to develop a conceptual framework of problem
Delimiting elements of problem

Classifying elements in homogeneous group

Locating key-points in conceptual framework Evaluating theoretical security of problem Deciding practical difficulty in conducting study
