The Main Image


The main image is positioned in the centre of the magazine the paradigm. It has been chosen to take up most of the magazine insinuating that this is the main story of the magazine.

Additionally the main image the choice of the contrast of black and white the paradigm, and the combination of this paradigm with the spacing of the text, highlights the loss of innocence and the embracing of evil.

Furthermore, it is a long shot of the main protagonist giving it the indication of the character being a significant part of the plot the syntagm.

Typography

The chosen font for the headline is a sans serif font suggesting that this is a modern magazine that is aimed at a younger target audience.

The title is positioned on the left side of the page insinuating that the main image is the main selling point of the film. The flash headlines are also positioned to the left in smaller writing, overpowered by the main image suggesting that the other inside stories within the magazine are not as important as the main story.

Again the chosen font for the masthead is a sans serif font insinuating the modernised style of the magazine.

The red colour of the text makes it stand out and connotes danger and hints at the film being some sort of horror.

Choice of Colours
This choice of the paradigm a dusty colour orange contrasted with the black of the text gives the idea of the old colours mixed with the new the syntagm. This paradigm of the contrast between the black background and the white text suggest the loss of innocence and the destruction of purity hinting the genre of the film and the combination of these paradigms leads to the ensemble.

The text is all aligned to the left of the magazine the paradigm and is in both red and white signifying the mixing of danger, vulnerability and the loss of innocence the combination of this paradigms (syntagm).

The black background has been chosen to suggest that this film is synonymous with evil, highlighting the genre of the film.

The colours chosen is the red text against the black background the paradigm and this insinuates danger aligned with the dark forces connoted from the completely black background the syntagm.

Institutional Information
The BFI logo is positioned to the right and the size is small so this suggests that the institutional information is almost irrelevant to the main headline of the magazine. The BFI logo is quite a bright colour paradigm combined with the orange background makes it an eye catching part of the magazine but it is still not as important as the main headline syntagm.

The red circle contains more institutional information and this colour of text overpowers the black background making it eye catching to the audience.

Flash Headlines
The paradigm of the alignment of the text to the right and the combination of this with the paradigm of the small size leads to the syntagmatic idea of it being less important than the main story. The choice of the capital letters paradigm shows that this is the most significant headline within the magazine as the other texts are small syntagm. The column style paradigm combined with the white colour of the text hints at this syntagmatic idea of the slight importance of the flash headlines as it is put up against a black background and so it stands out. The paradigm of the spaces between the stories and the combination of the different paradigms suggests their dissimilarities between the different stories.

The Banner
The paradigm of colour of the text being red overpowers the black text of the title as it is contrasted against the dusty orange colour. The selection of the capitalized text underneath the title shows that the magazine is satisfied with their rating and they believe it is an important aspect of it syntagm.

The paradigm of the small sized font has mainly been chosen to suggest that the most important aspect of the magazine is the masthead as it overpowers the banner.
