Windows XP
An operating system introduced in 2001 from Microsoft Windows family operating systems, the previous version of Windows Me. Microsoft called the release of most important product since Windows 95.

Operating System
is a software program that manages the hardware and software resources of computer. It performs basic tasks, such as controlling and allocating memory, prioritizing the processing of instructions, controlling input and output devices, facilitating networking, and managing files.
The Desktop
The large background area of the windows screen, the desktop can be customized by adding shortcuts to favourite programs , documents, and hardware. The look can also be changed to fit the users mood and personality.
Windows Desktop
Network is a feature of windows explorer which provides a simplified means of browsing computers and other resources on a local area network.
Recycle Bin is a holding area for files that are to be deleted from a storage device. Taskbar is a long horizontal bar at the bottom of the windows desktop which you use to access programs and manage your desktop.
Start Menu and Start Button are user interface elements in the microsoft windows product line, which serves as the central launching points for applications. By default, the start button is visible at all times in the lower-hand corner of the screen. It features the windows logo and the word start. Clicking the start button activates the start menu.
Quick Launch bar contains shortcuts to applications. Windows provides default entries, such as Internet Explorer, and the user or thirdparty software may add further shortcuts that they choose. A single click on the applications icon in this area launches the application. This section may not always be present. For example, it is absent by default in windows xp, although it can be enabled. Taskbar Button are buttons found in the taskbar that represents running applications. Taskbar buttons start out fairly wide, then get narrower to make room for others when the horizontal space starts to fill up.
System Tray contains mainly status notifications and shortcut to some programs. The clock by default appears here, and applications shortcut icons can be placed. Notification icons indicate the status of an operation or to notify the user about an event. For example, an application might put a printer icon in the status area to show that a print job is under way, or a display driver application may provide quick access to various screen resolutions.
Windows Explorer
Is an essential part of the windows environment. It is an application that is part of modern versions of the microsoft windows operating system that provides a graphical user interface for accessing the file systems. It is the component of the operating system that presents the user interface on the monitor and enables the user to navigate and control the computer
Back and Forward Buttons allow the user to quickly move background and forward through the navigation history.
Toolbar provides the user with quick access to tools that help print, store, organize and edit documents.
Integrated Search box allows the user to search the contents of the selected folder. File List shows the content of the current folder. Buttons Minimize button minimizes a window, hiding it from the screen but keeping it running in the computers memory and ready for quick use. Maximize / Restore buttons toggles between maximize and restore. Maximize enlarges the window so that it fills the entire screen. Restore returns the window to its previous size. Close button closes the window, removing it from the screen and the computers memory.
Dialog Box
Dialog Boxes are special windows which are used by computer programs or by the operating system to display information to the user, or to get a response if needed.

Text box
Provides with a place to type an entry such as a name for a file you want; to save or a path you wants to use to find a specific file.
List Box
Presents a list of possible choices which you can choose. Scroll bars often accompany a list box so that you can scroll through the list Ex. Slide transition - slide show
This box is a single-line list box with a down arrow button to the right of it. When you click on the arrow, the drop down list box opens to displays a list of choices. Ex. Font style & sizes
Option Button
Presents a group of related choices from which you can choose only one. Simply click on the option button you want to select, and all others become deselected.
Ex. Printing Documents
Check Boxes
Present a single option or group of related options. A check mark appears in the box next to an option to indicate that this is active.
Ex. Inserting Slide number
Tabbed Pages
Represented multiple sections of a dialog box. One tab is displayed at a time, and each tab contains related options. Choosing a tab changes the options that appear in the dialog box. Ex. Viewing header & footer
ARRANGING WINDOWS
Cascade lays all open windows on top of each other Tile if you need all open windows at the same time.
