Lynn English Bulldogs

1)Attitude : A.M.F.

Offensive Philosophy

2)Spread the field: Formations & motions -Forces the defense to declare their coverage & blitzes -Easier for the QB to make reads -Helps the run game -Create mismatches -It will get our athletes in open space 3)Destroy the Blitz: Recognize it-Protect it-Attack it -Protection must be simple -Throw to uncovered WRs -Game plan ( extra protection, Screens) 4)Dominate in the run game: -Oline & WRs must beat people up -RBs & QBs positive yards every time 5)Game Planning: -Must be able to adjust during game -Routes must be adjustable -Must have right tools in the toolbox when we go to work

Offensive Goals for 2009

Offensive Goals: 1.To outscore our opponent which will ensure a VICTORY! 2.To score 4 times a game. 3.To out-hit and punish every defense we face. 4.To average 325yds of total offense per game. 5.To be one of the top 5 offenses in the state.
Offensive Objectives: 1. Attack: We will play fast and hard , in and out of huddle (some no huddle). We will force each opponent to react and adjust to our offense. We will always use intelligence and conditioning to our advantage. 2. GATA: We will GET AFTER THEIR ASS! This is the cornerstone principle of Lynn English Football. 3. Elimination of TOs: Its tough enough to beat your opponent. Take away the neg. plays to ensure that we dont beat ourselves. TURNOVER RATIO is the number one factor in winning and losing football games. 4. SCORE: We will score first ,fast and we will finish the 4QTR. We will maximize the Red Zone and we will take advantage of every turnover that our defense creates by scoring points. 5. TEAM: Most important , we must become a true team. On and off the field , we act as one , united as whole group, when we are together we can accomplish greatness.

Installing the Gun Offense

Concepts of the gun offense The Mesh and Reading the 5 in the Gun Offense Installing the run game in a spread gun offense Installing a powerful ground game in the gun offense Using a powerful option and quarterback attack in the gun offense Installing an explosive pass game from the gun offense

Concepts Of The Gun Offense

Formations: Spread Gun, Two Back Gun, and Special Formations Motions: Calling Motion and Understanding Why We Use Motion Hole and Back Numbering For Play Calling Game and Practice Planning Installing A System For No Huddle

Incorporating The Gun Offense

You can use the gun as a change-up or as a system You can run many plays from many different offenses from the gun Allows you to read defenders you couldnt read from under center You can run a power based offense from the gun You can run an option based offense from the gun You can run a misdirection offense from the gun You can throw the ball from the gun You can add balance to your attack from the gun

Advantages of The Gun

Defenses Have To Account For the QB As A Runner Every Play Can Become An Option Play QB Has Easier Pre And Post Snap Reads QB Already Has Depth In The Pass Game Offense Can Read Rather Than Block A Defender In The Run Game QB Works Downhill As Opposed To Uphill From Under C In Two Back Gun The D Must Account For 3 Backs and 3 Wideouts In One Back Gun The D Must Account For Two Backs And Four Wides You get your athletes the football in open space Basketball on grass, with fast break potential

The gun puts linebackers on their heels The gun allows you to finesse your opponents when you do not have an overpowering line When you have an overpowering line, the gun allows to be more versatile with the run and pass The gun allows you to work downhill The gun gives your QB an increased field of vision

At LEHS, we try to keep play calling very simple & short in length . Our run game is called by the # of the ball carrier with the # of the hole the play is going with the name of the play. Our passing game is call with the protection and the name of the play. We will also use terms to designate our motion and tags to designate specific routes by Rb or Wr.

RT H rip 24 Zone

RT 62 Vegas F Arrow

Motion
Motion is the second part of how we want to align before we want the ball snapped. We use motion in our offense for specific , defined purpose some as which include: To disguise our intention/delay defensive recognition. To gain a blocker at the point of attack. To create personnel advantages. To force the pass coverage to declare man or zone. To create coverage problems or checks. To force the coverage to bump, changing personnel and alignment.

Installation Of The Gun Offense

The QB Mesh and Reading The Backside 5 Technique

QB Footwork And The Mesh If The back is crossing the QB, the QB will take a flat step toward the back. We call this Flat Step, Short Step. He reaches the ball deep and feels the belly of the back, snapping his eyes to his read. He rides the back through while making his read. Squeeze and Chase, Pull and Replace RB Footwork And The Mesh The back aligns 1.5 to 2 yards behind the QB, straddling the outside leg of the guard. If the back is crossing the QB, he will take a 1/2 step opposite the QB, then get downhill. He must make a deep pocket, with the top palm up. The back must feel the QB read, and not snatch at the football.

SQUEEZE AND CHASE, PULL AND REPLACE

If the 5 technique squeezes and chases, pull and replace If he does anything else, give the football If the 5 tech slow plays, give the football If the 5 tech comes upfield, give the football If the 5 tech comes at the QB, give the football

Keys To A Good Mesh The QB must secure the snap first! The QB MUST get his eyes to his read The RB must make a deep soft pocket The RB must be patient, dont rush The Tackle must reduce his shoulder to avoid allowing the DE to collision him down the line The QB must be soft with the football Can add option or scissors(2- back) tag to any Mesh Run play

Inside Zone Read Play

The Zone read play is our number one play from the gun This is the first play we will install from the gun We use our zone blocking system for this play Based on game planning decision, we will use zone combinations and or fold blocks to get movement We read the backside 5 or #3 defender The H reads 1st down player At POA

Inside Zone Rules

Our offensive line rules begin with the play side gap Our landmark is the play side jersey number of the defensive lineman We want to dent the line of scrimmage and get movement Our offensive line takes a six inch zone step to the play side at a 45 degree angle, depending on the technique of the defensive lineman On our first step, our offensive lineman will grab their guns (This term tells our lineman to get their hands cocked) The second step is through the crotch of the defender The offensive lineman is trying to punch through the play side jersey number We keep our feet moving to get our head across the midpoint of the defender We must keep our feet moving to get to the play side

Offensive Line Calls

Communication is the utmost importance in the gun offense The offensive line must work together to make sure we account for the box defenders In our zone scheme we are working our play side Zone combos We have an uncovered lineman and an a covered lineman working together They are tracking the down defensive linemen to LBS Our line calls work from play side to backside on the zone read
If the center an RG work together, we call Arizona

If the center an LG work together, we call Alaska

A Guard & Tackle working together is a Deuce The Tackle and TE working together is a Titan call We work our line calls until they no longer have communication, but we still communicate our calls We also have dummy calls put in by our line coach

Covered/Uncovered Zone Concept

M T M T

This is an example of an Arizona call on 24 Zone Read. The RG is covered with a 3 tech, and the Center is uncovered with a man over. The RG and Center take their play side zone step with eyes to their gap.

The uncovered player must have his eyes in his PSG. In the case above, the 3 Tech slanted inside and the Center has to pick him up. The RG sees him go away and now works to the player filling the B gap.

If the Mike were to step up to blitz, the Center would make a Baby (base) call. This would eliminate the Arizona call and put both lineman on a base block.

Handling Stunts
B B L B

E
This is a two-on-two drill working two offensive lineman vs. a defensive lineman and a backer. This is a generic drill where we will put guards with tackles and centers with guards. We want this to be a game speed drill once the initial teaching is done. You must work against twists and loops

This is our three on three drill we do a lot because of stacked fronts. We get head up tackles that will slant. We work this drill with the front side, then the backside. We get our eyes up and this teaches the kids to be able to work an inside threat. We teach patience in this drill and we follow a very strict rule, Dont Chase Backers.

Quick passing game

Our quick passing game is the bread and butter of the Gun passing attack. We will throw it at anytime , anywhere on the field. We prefer to use it against covers 3 and 1 or against the blitz. This is a high percentage throw. The completion should be 80%85%. We can run these plays out of most of our formations, but a majority of the time we like to run them from 2x2, 3x1, or 3x2. Defensive Answer to our Quick passing game 1. They will give up the 5 or 6 yard completion. Then think of tackling the WR at that yardage. If the Defensive coordinator has done his homework , they will realize that half of all passing yards comes AFTER THE CATCH. So a 5 or 6-yard catch will usually turn into a 10-12 yard play. WE WILL TAKE THAT !!
They will play a 2 deep concept either zone or man underneath. Either of these might force us to throw the fade route. We can do this , but we would prefer to run the football against this coverage. The reason being , with 4 wide-outs it would take 6 people to cover them. This puts only 5 in the box , and gives us great opportunity to run the football. BLITZ, If the first two theories do not work for them they can go to the blitz theory. If they bring 6 we can block that, 7 is the problem. Remember this is man to man , no help, if the DB makes a little mistake it is points. Quick game rules A.M.F If defender is within 3 yards then we beat him deep. FIRE- This is for slots , if the defender over you plays wide or on the snap of the ball flies out to cover the flats just open up to the QB ,stay 3-4 yards from LOS.

Screens

80=bubble (Boston) 88/89 =Tunnel Screen 81/82 =slow screen

The screen passing game is an important component of our offense. Our screen plays will allow us to Get the ball in the hands of an athlete in the open field High percentage throws Slows the rush because it makes the defense think versus reacting Action can displace the Linebackers Our offense is flexible enough to accommodate all types of screens : Running Back screens , WR screens , and even TE screens Key points to remember when running screens; Screen Receivers must catch the ball behind the LOS. If the receiver is covered , the QB must ground the ball at the receivers feet Offensive Line must block aggressively before release QB must look downfield before coming of to the receiver

What It Takes To Be Number One

winning is not a sometime thing : its an all-the_time thing. You dont win once in a

while , you dont do things right once in a while , you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately , so is losing Its a reality of life that men are competitive and the most competitive games draw the most competitive men. Thats why theyre there to compete. They know the rules and the objectives when they get in the game. The objective is to win Fairly, squarely , decently , by the rules but to win. And in truth , Ive never known a man worth his salt who in the long run , deep down in his heart , didnt appreciate the grind , the discipline. There is something in good men that really yearns for , needs , discipline and the harsh reality of head to head combat. I dont say these things because I believe in the brute nature of man or that men must be brutalized to be combative. I believe in God , and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any mans finest hour his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle--VICTORIOUS.
