Dr.

Thomas McMahon Superintendent Honorary Chairman Of The Watchful Shepherd Program

The Watchful Shepherd Program was established by Joseph Femiani in 1993, with an aim to help children and their families to deal with the increasing evil of family violence and child abuse. It provides the Washington County (PA) Child Protective Services Unit with a technologically advanced electronic monitoring device, so that it can improve up on its efforts for preventing children in potentially dangerous family situations.

The organization uses an advanced and easily accessible technology to find out ways for protecting children and giving them the strength and confidence to raise a voice against any form of abuse or violence.

The Watchful Shepherd provides child victims with a wrist band that activates the electronic device installed in their home which calls a computer monitoring system at the organizations National Response Center that operates round the clock, and then an appropriate action is taken.

In addition to protecting children from abuse in their home, the Watchful Shepherd Program also has proved to be useful for other family members facing domestic abuse. The loud sound of the device and the information that the authorities note from time to time, plays an essential role in preventing situations from becoming volatile. This has thus, resulted into lesser day-to-day anxiety for the child and the entire family.

For over 15 years, the program has proven beneficial to thousands of children and families. Since its foundation in 1993, there have not been any reported cases of child abuse in the homes where the Watchful Shepherd unit is implemented.
