Mesh network is a type of wired or wireless networking that uses redundant and distributed nodes to provide greater reliability and range for any given wireless network.

A number of smaller nodes, called repeaters, connect to large nodes or wireless routers to provide coverage over a larger area.
Example of mesh network:

*
* The message propagates along a path, by hopping
from node to node until the destination is reached.

* Ensure network is in fully connected and continuous

since it need to connect 1 by 1 to reach destination.

* By using self-healing algorithms to operate, when one

node breaks down or a connection goes bad.

* Mostly is operating in wireless, but this concept is also

applicable to wired networks

*
* Wireless mesh network is a wireless network that
relies on radio signals to allow several devices within a coverage area to communicate with each other.

*
* MP (Mesh Point) : Nodes in the mesh network, in charge of
the delivery of the packets from each node.

* MAP (Mesh Access Point) : It works with the functions of

middleware transmission in the mesh network, and plays the role of a RF Access Points.

* MPP (Mesh Portal) : It plays as the bridge for interfacing

two networks, usually connects the wired network with the wireless MESH network.

*
* Wireless mesh networks often consist of mesh clients,
mesh routers and gateways.

* The

mesh clients are often laptops, cell phones and other wireless devices. routers forward traffic to and from the gateways which may but need not connect to the Internet. coverage area of the radio nodes working as a single network is sometimes called a mesh cloud.

* In a wireless mesh network, the network connection is spread out
among dozens or even hundreds of wireless mesh nodes to share the network connection across a large area.

* Mesh nodes are small radio transmitters that function in the same
way as a wireless router.

* Nodes are programmed with software that tells them how to

interact within the larger network.

* Information travels across the network from point A to point B by

hopping wirelessly from one mesh node to the next.

* The nodes automatically choose the quickest and safest path in a

process known as dynamic routing.

*
* Wireless
mesh networks are often used in conjunction with other networks in order to provide reliability and stability to users.

* Wireless mesh network able to automatically restore

communication if one device stops working.

* It is not necessarily need to connect to the Internet. * It

relies on radio signals in order to wirelessly transfer information from one device to another

be used with a wide variety of wireless devices and are able to communicate with each other without access to the Internet. be as small or as large as necessary and can be portable in order to allow the entire network to travel from one place to another.

* Can

* Avoid the waiting time of applying for a least-line. * Number

of nodes can be adjusted to fit the demands of environment.

*
* Network that can span larger distances. * Mesh network is more reliable, If one node drops out
of the network its neighbors can quickly find another route using a routing protocol. MESH Network provides more flexibility, especially when used for the multi-point connection within short distances.

* Wireless

*
* Increased delay introduced by multiple hops. * Increased complexity of protocols (MAC, routing,
management, security).

* Increased complexity of planning of initial coverage

(network seeding).

*
* Military
purposes allow soldiers to know the exact location of all troops and their current status, enabling them to coordinate their movements without assistance.

surveillance, public transportation surveillance, and allow satellites to transfer information to each other without being routed through Earth-based systems.
collaborate their work on a daily basis or backup a system.

* Organization

*
* Security systems: Inexpensive sensor nodes can
monitor virtually every entry point or approach to a facility.

* Public service communications: * Broadband wireless access:

* Temporary and short-termed working area.

* Home monitoring and control
