Introduction
The vehicle suspension system is responsible for driving comfort and safety as the suspension carries the vehicle-body and transmits all forces between body and road. Passive suspension system consists of an energy dissipating element, which is the damper, and an energy-storing element, which is the spring. Since these two elements can not add energy to the system this kind of suspension systems are called passive. Passive suspension systems are subject to various trade offs when they are excited across a large frequency bandwidth. Active or adaptive suspension is an automotive technology that controls the vertical movement of the wheels via an on-board system rather than the movement being determined entirely by the surface on which the car is driving. The system therefore virtually eliminates body roll and pitch variation in many driving situations including cornering, accelerating, and braking.

Insight: Others
The average citation frequency of the patents pertaining to this technology is found to be 1.9866 Though Toyota has a major share of 13% patents to its name as its average citation frequency is well below average citation frequency. From the above graph it is clear that Ford and Nissan have good quality patents as their average citation frequency is above average citation frequency of all patents. Similarly classes B60G0017018, B60G17016F, B60G170165 have good quality patents, as their average citation frequency is more than the average citation frequency of all relevant patents.
