Hospital Profile:
Goal: Quality Care at Reasonable cost. AECS founded in 1976 with 11-bed Facility by Dr. Govinda Venkataswamy (Dr. V) in Madurai. AECS performed all type of Eye surgeries. In 1978, a 70 bed free hospital was opened for poor to provide high quality of service. In 2004 AECS comprised Eye care facility at Madurai, Theni, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore and Pondicherry.
Facts:
More than 20 millions Blind peoples in India and only 4 million surgeries are performed every year. Over 75% blindness is due to cataract.\ Two types of cataract surgery: 1) ICCE (Intra Capsular surgery), 2) ECCE(Extra capsular surgery). Infection rate- 4 per 10,000 where 6 per 10,000 in UK. 20% 0f population need glasses. 1% has cataract.

Operation Excellence:
Two section were same in few aspects and also different in few aspect. Operation Theatre - Arrange two table side by side (reduces surgery time from 30 minutes, industry standard, to 10 minutes). Organizes camp to attracts rural patients (Patients go additional process of B.P. and urine sugar test). Recruit nurses from near by villages (hunger to do something, not trained as nurse, not able to get job elsewhere).

Capital Requirement. Organizational management (Organizing camps). Skilled manpower. Cooperation between employees at different hierarchy level. Mass awareness To retain its doctor
