Vascular System Diseases

What is Vascular disease?

any condition that affects your circulatory

system, such as peripheral artery disease.

this ranges from diseases of your arteries, veins and lymph vessels to blood disorders that affect cicrculation.

The following are conditions that fall under the category of Vascular Disease:

Peripheral Artery Disease (P.A.D)

disease in which plaque builds up in the arteries that carry blood to your head, organs, and limbs. PLAQUE is made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, fibrous tissue, and other substances in the blood. P.A.D. usually affects the arteries in the legs, but also can affect the arteries that carry blood from your heart to your head, arms, kidneys, and stomach. This article focuses on P.A.D that affects blood flow to the legs.

Peripheral Venous Disease (P.V.D)

second type of peripheral vascular disease.
a term describing damage, defects or blockage in the veins that carry blood from the hands and feet to the heart. It can occur almost anywhere in the body but is mostly seen in the arms and legs.

CAUSE:
a blood clot that blocks a vein. A clot forms when vein walls become weak and blood flow slows.

Aneursym
is a localized, blood-filled balloon-like bulge in the wall of blood vessel. commonly occur in arteries at the base of brain and an aortic aneursym occurs in the main artery carrying blood from the left ventricle of the heart. When the size of an anuersym increases, there is significant risk of rupture, resulting in severe hemorrhage, other complications or D E A T H.

Renal Artery Stenosis

is the narrowing of the renal artery, most often caused by atherosclerosis or fibromuscular dysplasia. FIBROMUSCULAR DYSPLASIA a disease that can cause narrowing of arteries in the kidneys, it can also cause hypertension, strokes, heart attacks, arterial swelling and dissection. narrowing of the renal artery impede blood flow to the target kidney. Hypertension and atrophy of the affected kidney may result from renal artery stenosis, ultimately leading to renal failure if not treated.

Raynauds Phenomenon
vasospatic disorder causing discoloration of the fingers, toes, and occasionally other areas. can also cause nails to become brittle with longitudinal ridges. this is believed to be the result of vasospasms that decrease blood supply to the respective regions. Emotional stress and cold are classic triggers of the phenomenon.

Buergers Disease (Thromboangiitis

obliterans) is a recuring progressive inflammation and thrombosis of small and medium arteries and veins of the hands and feet. strongly associated with use of tabacco products, primarily from smoking, but also from smokeless tabacco.

Varicose Veins
are bulging, swollen, purple, ropy veins, seen just under your skin, caused by damaged valves within the veins. they are common in women than men and they often run in families. they can also be caused by pregnancy, being sevelery overweight, or standing for long periods of time.

Venous Blood Clot

a natural process in which blood cells and strands of fibrin clump together to stop bleeding after a blood vessel has been injured. the clot forms a protective scab over a healing wound. If the body did not have the ability to clot blood, people would bleed to DEATH after a minor cut.

Lymphedema (Lymphatic Obstruction)

a condition of localized fluid retention and tissue swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system. LYMPHATIC SYSTEM returns the interstitial fluid to the thoracic duct and then to the bloodstream, where it is recirculated back to the tissues. tissues with lymphedema are at risk of infection.
