Types of managers
(management level)

 First-line managers - responsible for the work


of operating employees only, not of other
managers
 Middle managers - responsible for lower-level
managers and sometimes for operating
employees; report to more senior managers
 Top managers - responsible for the overall
management of the organization; establish
operating policies and guide the organization’s
interaction with its environment

 Functional managers - responsible for just


one organizational activity, such as finance or
human resources management
 General managers - responsible for all
functional activities, such as production, sales,
marketing, and finance, for an organization
such as a company or subsidiary
