Asia and the Pacific: Vulnerable to Climate Change and Food Insecurity
Nearly 2/3 of the world's hungry reside in Asia and the Pacific. Global food production needs to increase by 40% by 2030 to keep pace with global demand (FAO 2009). The region is the most disaster-afflicted area of the world. Climate change threatens not only food systems and agriculture production but also livelihoods and human welfare.
Flooding in Thailand in 2011 cost about 2% of its GDP.
