Aim of the exploration solar 2009

The aim is to have a look on the diversity of existing equipment in photovoltac and solar water systems.

Why to choose solar?

Necessity of producing electricity. To be independant from network. Wish to produce electricity. Innovative capacity and exemple. Education and ecology thinking. Strategy of sustainable development. Power and finance saving.

Response to customer's needs

Equipments available since 20 years. Permanent tecnology evolution. Finance solutions. Partnerships for installation. Regional financing grants.

Motivation analysis

Financial return is not the only reason. To compensate the electric consumption. The free ressource is a reason to invest in that equipments. Financial return is one of the reasons.

Advantage

Electric autonomy is an advantage for restaurants managers and other housing in altitude. Unavailable connection to ground electric network is part of the problem, because some businesses are seasonal. Presence of two or three months.

Perspectives for development

Evolution of solar equipment and investments currently made in large surfaces enable us to count on strong development of this industrial sector.

Installations seen in 2009

Solar equipment must be illuminated by day light, then it is quite easy to look at it without entering inside locations. Only electric devices like ondulators or pipes and hot water tanks must be locked inside secured rooms. Pictures were shot during august and september 2009.

Aix les bains, work center

Concept for energy producing building, this complex contains full energy management to improve performances. Center for help through work, Aix les bains, Savoie.

Chambery hills

It is a solar plant installed on the top of two water tanks. It allow to save space and to benefit from security zone. Chambery hills, Savoie.

Beaufort, private house.

This house has a complex system with priority to solar electricity. Heat is provided by three level tank wich is using both solar, wood pellets and usual network. Mr Gilles Gonthier, Village of Beaufort sur Doron, Savoie.

Gittaz, remote valley.

This montain chalet has three second-hand panels in order to make up for lack of usual network. Gittaz housing, Beaufort, Savoie.

Roselend, mountain housing

This mountain housing needed electricity to prepare meals, it is also an altitude housing during summer. The elected solution is mobile and foldable. Roselend housing, Beaufort, Savoie.

Roselend restaurant

This altitude restaurant has solar panels on each part of the roof, this do not optimize the efficiency of installation. An electric choc has harmed the system and it is also reducing the efficiency. Roselend restaurant, Beaufort, Savoie.

Mont Cenis castle

This castle of napoleonian times benefits of restauration et experimental solar panel equipment. Mont Cenis, frontier summit, Savoie.

Mercedes camping van

This couple from Nice is using camping vans for 20 years, they increased their autonomy by installing a solar battery linked to original battery of the vehicle. This first generation panel was widely profitable. Mercedes, camping car, Ubaye valley.

Petraporzio, hostel restaurant

This familly installed his buildings with hot water supply and is reselling electricity to italian network. Parking, roofs of the hostel and restaurant are covered with last generation photovoltac panels. Petraporzio hostel, Piemonte, Italie.

Petraporzio, house

This house of Petraporzio is equiped with four solar panels for water heating. Petraporzio house, Piemonte, Italia.

Castello house

This house is equiped with water heating panels. Built on the edge of the mountain, this equipment is settled over an other house. This very well oriented equipment could be usefull all year long, but the familly is living in Milan, more than 60 miles away. Castello house, Piemonte, Italy.

Solar panel road sign

Due to a close worksite and distance from the village, a solar panel solution has been choosen for this road sign. Road sign, Alps.

Molires village

Mercantour parc has regulations about building haouses. The former village was burn down because of german defeat in 1945 et famillies are rebuilding over ruins. Solar energy is actualy the only solution. Molires village, Alpes Maritimes.

Molires milk and cheese factory

Edo Colombero breeds cows for meat during summer and cheese factory has settled here since decades. This equipment provided by village enable a good autonomy in case of bad weather. It is the only solution allowed in natural parc of Mercantour. Molires cheese factory, Mercantour parc.

Saint Martin de Vsubie house

Two different equipments for hot water, one for a pool, another for sanitation of private houses. Saint Martin de Vsubie house, Alpes Maritimes.

Boron cheese factory

This milk and cheese factory is using solar energy for freezer and light network in 12 volts. Solar energy is still not powerfull enough to supply milking equipments with electricity. Cheese factory Boron, Alpes Maritimes.

Valensole swimming pool

This village has choosen solar heating system for water used in swimming pool and football stadium facilities. All panels have been changed this year. The water system is a closed circuit with filters. There are three tanks, one beeing use for facilites heating during winter, autumn and spring. Valensole, swimming pool and stadium, Alpes de Haute Provence.

Vinon sur Verdon solar plant

Built by solaire direct company, this solar plant is actualy the largest in france. This sunny region is very convenient for these solutions. Vinon sur Verdon, solar plant, Var.

St Maximin's private school

The private agriculture school has setup a partnership to instal a large surface of photovoltac panels. 100 square meters out of 651 are used to supply the school with electricity. The equipment is managed by ENEOVIA. Mr Christian BRAYER, Private agriculture school, Saint Maximin la Sainte Baume, Var.

Hot water in Corsica ?

With a sunny weather, Corsica island should be a place where to develop solar tecnology. There are actualy few panels visible, but i did not focus on this subject during the trip. Only one water panel came in front of my camera.

Conclusion of solar panorama

By this choice of field work, i met several opinions about solar solution. All were positives about using the sun, i only had one discussion about unsightly reasons. Difficulty is still on financial subject because it keeps a part of personal investment for famillies even in partnership with companies.
