Message from Hon. Vice-Chancellor,

Dr. Akshai Aggrawal.

We want GTU to be a leader in innovation, we want that every student of GTU should become innovative. Innovation requires three steps: 1. You first of all identify a problem and determine that by using your technical knowledge you will be able to solve it. 2. Secondly you design a solution. 3. Then you implement your solution. An engineer is a problem solver. Once you become an engineer, you will be required and accepted everywhere.

Message from I/C Registrar, Dr. G.P. Vadodariya

GTU started various Sankuls last year, on this day on 14th feb, 2011, within short span the Sankuls have done a wonderful job, we have also received an international award after working only for few months, our work has been recognized at all platforms, across the state, at national and international level, according to my view the way people are working in innovation Sankuls, i am sure it will reach at the heights where other university will require at least 10 years to reach at that point.

Mission

Feel the difference, Take a lead

GTU IS CREATING THE FIRST INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM AT UNIVERSITY LEVEL IN THE COUNTRY !!
5

Institutionalizing innovation spirit in academia for solving socio-technical issues

502 institutions
3.53 lakhs students 19,000 Professors

8,000 MSMEs
10 lakhs human months Per academic year In 25 Innovation Clusters To solve the issues of People at the bottom of the pyramid.

Final Year Projects

Technology Education: Excellence in education determined by excellence in practical work in laboratories, workshops and businesses & industries The Final year Project
Considered as the capstone of technology education Integrates the study of different subjects for designing and developing a product Leads to a seamless transition from study at a University to work in businesses & industries
7

Current Scenario
Reaching about 3.53 lakh TECHNOLOGY / Management STUDENTS Final Year Projects: 10 LAC HUMAN MONTHS/YEAR DEVOTED TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AS A PART OF THEIR CURRICULUM. INDUSTRY ABSORPTION: The results of the project work are rarely used by the industry. TECHNOENTREPRENEURSHIP: Very few projects are used to start a new venture. LACK OF STRONG KNOWLEDGE ECOSYSTEM INVOLVING ENGINEERING-DESIGN-GRASS ROOT INNOVATIONS and UNIVERSITY TO CONVERT IDEA TO SOCIALLY APPLICABLE TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS.
8

A New Paradigm for the Final Year Project

GTU wants every final year project to
Solve some real problem of businesses & industries or of the society Lead to a close inter-action with businesses & industries or with the society by way of Identifying the problem Designing and developing the product Mentoring during the project Evaluation of the project

Objectives of a UDISHA Club

To establish a close and continuing interaction between the industry and GTU To decide about the Final Year projects in consultation with industries To be able to seek and get the help of industries in execution of the project by way of
Mentoring Help by way of materials Help in evaluation of the project
16

To explore and to help solve the problems of the industries through regular consulting cells at institutes To help industry associations work better through student volunteers

17

Methodology of a Shodh Yatra

Industrial Shodhyatra will be done at weekends involving faculties and students in all parts of state from coming weeks. These Shodhyatras will be on a larger scale in summer where they will map the IDPs in a period of 1 month while closely working with industries and submit projects/IDPs to GTU.

Appreciations
The Project has already won appreciation from the Division of Green Technology, National Research Foundation of Korea . It has been widely appreciated by His Excellency Dr. Maximus Ongkili, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister of Malaysia on 23rd Feb 2011 at NIF. This model has been presented at Munich Venture Summit in Germany and in Spain by Prof Anil Gupta on Techpedia.in

27

Appreciations 2
The delegation of Social Entrepreneurship department of Norwegian University of Science & Technology has liked the attempt of forging industryacademia association and has started using it for creating an environment for innovation. Union HRD secretary Ms Vibha Puri Das has taken a note of this approach for possible scaling of this attempt across the technical education ecosystem of the country. At a meeting of the VCs, organized by UGC at Delhi in March 22-23, 2011 a recommendation to organize clusters of industries and colleges was made to all the Universities.

Important Work Agenda for UDHISHA Clubs

UDISHA Club must arrange the presentation of all final year projects (IDP/UDP) in presence of Prefinal & final year students of that particular branch.
IDP/UDP presentation is to be separately done for each department. Following members are to be invited for presentation
Industry Mentors Co-chairman Academia Co-chairman Industry / prominent industry leader or their representative Director of respective Sankul.

Important Work Agenda for UDHISHA Clubs .2

Every branch should invite at least 1 Industry person in every 2 week for sharing their thoughts with students. Also Name, Contact no., Fax No., Mail ID, Name of Company, Designation, all related detail are to be conveyed to University so that University can announce that detail on website. All UDISHA Club members must meet once in a month (Date to be fixed by college) and submit the monthly report of the activities done to GTU innovation council. That report will be published on GTU web.

30

Important Work Agenda for UDHISHA Clubs .3

UDISHA Coordinator is required to make a list of innovative projects, which can improve the product/process/policy design and inform GTU Innovation Council about the same. Club members must try to find out ways of visiting Industries/Estates in nearby area for performing small engineering job Like,
Measuring boiler efficiency, Measuring Air/Water pollution, Energy audit etc.
