What is biodiesel?
Biodiesel refers to a vegetable oil- or animal fat-based diesel fuel consisting of long-chain alkyl (methyl, propyl or ethyl) esters. Biodiesel is made from algae oil by chemical process called transesterification Triglyceride Monoglyceride + Methanol Diglyceride Monoglyceride catalyst Glycerol + Methyl esters (biodiesel)
Production method
1) Batch process 2) Supercritical process 3) Ultra & higher shear in line & batch reactors 4) Ultrasonic reactor method 5) Microwave method 6) Lipase catalyzed method
Mechanical method
Chemical method
-Expression/ Expeller method -Hexane solvent method -Ultrasonic assisted extraction -Soxhlet extraction 1)ultrasonic preparation for -supercritical fluid cold pressing extraction 2)ultrasonic solvent extraction 3)ultrasonic enzymatic extraction
