Flexibility and multipurpose being the need of today's world, design engineers are being forced to design the

machines which are compact, flexible, multipurpose , economic, reliable and durable. Cutting being the most initial phase of any operation in manufacturing, importance of our machine is justified. Considering the factors like portability compactness and multi purpose we have designed and fabricated portable drilling cum hacksaw machine.

BEVEL GEAR
Bevel Gear are used for transmitting power between intersecting shafts. They are used for connecting shafts at practically any angle, 90 being common. In a bevel gear, the teeth formed on conical surfaces.

The geometrical tolerance provided for the pitch angle ensures smooth working

UNIVERSAL JOINT

Universal joints are used to transmit torque from one shaft to another which are offset to each other

Universal joints are made from heat treated alloy steels for

increased over load and reliability.

Precision machining ensures optimum performance under severe load conditions.

Hubs are made of Cr-Mo medium carbon steel, hardened and tempered for high torque transmission.

CRANKWHEEL

Crank wheel with three eccentric holed drilled to transmit rotary motion into reciprocating motion via connecting rod.

CONNECTING ROD

Connecting rod used to connect crank wheel with the sliding mechanism so as to transmit rotary motion to reciprocating movement.

SHAFT

Shaft is a rotating member, which transmit power from one point to another.

Shaft acts as base for mounting gear.

It is supported by self aligning bearing.


Shaft and gear together transmit power from drilling

machine to the sliding arrangement of hacksaw frame.

FASTENERS

Used for tightening and assembling the parts to form assembly required.

Generally nut and bolts were used for the process.

MINI DIMMER:

Mini dimmer that is extensively used to regulate and control the speed of the fans. This is an energy saving device . These regulators can also be used as a speed regulator for many other small F.H.P. motors used in mixer, laboratory solution mixer etc, with appropriate current ratings. Some of the features of these regulators are: Durability Wear & tear resistance Easy installation Abrasion resistance.

CONSTRUCTION:

The upper and lower frame are joined together using fasteners and mounting screws. Drill machine is mounted on the base frame using fasteners and mounting strip. Shaft is connected to the drill machine chuck via universal joint. Self aligning bearing are bolted on mounted strip. Shaft are inserted in the self aligning bearing

Bevel gear is mounted at one end of shaft and other end is connected to drill machine via universal joints. Crank wheel is mounted at the one end of the second shaft and the bevel gear is mounted on the shaft such a way that it meshes with the first bevel gear. Self aligning bearing are used for supporting both the shafts. Crank wheel is connected to the sliding bush type arrangement provided on the frame using connecting rod .

Blade is mounted on the sliding type frame attached to the upper frame.. Regulator is used to regulate the speed of the Drilling machine . Entire assemble is mounted on rubber pads to absorb the vibrations.

The jobs is placed on the machine vice and its length is set as per requirment. The drilling machine connection is switched ON ,which in turn rotates the shaft coupled to it . Shaft rotates the gear arrangement and the motion is transmitted to crank wheel. The rotation of the crank wheel reciprocates the sliding arrangement through the connecting rod and provides the reciprocating motion to the blade attached to the upper hacksaw frame and the cutting process is initiated.

The pressure for cutting is exerted on the blade due to the weight of the frame and tie rod attached to the frame. After completion of cut the frame is lifted and the bar stock is further adjusted for the next cut as per requirment.

Main maintenance activity is lubricating. Lubrication to be done of following parts.

a) Bearing casing. b) Gears c) Shaft The grease is applied on them. Greasing should be done once a fortnight if regularly operated.

Due to vibration in running condition there is a

chance of foundation bolt getting loosens. Hence


they need to be tightened after certain interval.

Painting of whole unit should be done once a year Nut bolts and screw should be tightened if loosen and if worn out then should be replaced periodically.

The saw bits and drill tap set should be replaced as per working cycles.

Drilling holes with great accuracy. Reaming purpose. In wood working industries for cutting and drilling purpose. Boring operation. Tapping operation in holes. Pipe cutting in piping industries and sites. On civil working sites for cutting structure rods.

It is compact and portable.


It is very easy to operate. It is having low power consumption.

Its installation cost is very low.


It is very simple from maintenance point of view. It is very advantageous for small scale industries

because of multipurpose option. Any unskilled person can operate this machine. It requires low set up time.

Installing hydraulic unit will provide auto lifting and

auto switching off after completion of cut.

By providing pedal or handle this unit can be operated manually in absence of electrical current.

Automatic lubrication and cooling system would make the machine more efficient.

By providing automatic bar feeding mechanism would


atomise the system and improve its efficiency.

After completion of the project we came to the following conclusions:After testing and analysis we concluded that performance efficiency of our project is satisfactory. We can drill a maximum hole size of 12.5 mm diameter. Cutting can be done for maximum size up to 60 mm diameter. Maximum travel of the saw over the job is 40 mm which is very safe.
