WHAT IS
Guarantee Act, in short NREGA/EGA, aims at enhancing livelihood security of households in rural areas of the country by providing at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work

This act is perhaps one of the most progressive and interesting bills passed by the Indian parliament in the recent times.
This bill seems to hold the potential to bring a huge change in rural India.

Notification of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act came in September 2005. It was launched on February 2, 2006.
NREGA is the flagship programme of the UPA Government that directly touches lives of the poor and promotes inclusive growth.

The ongoing programmes of Sampoorn Grameen Rozgar yojna & National Food for Work Programme were subsumed within this programme in the 200 of the most backward districts of the country, in which it was introduced in phase 1. OBJECTIVES OF NREGA
