Piyava is situated in the siyala in a semi arid region, having undulated land, rocky area. This district Surendranagar is drought prone which is the reason the land is not too fertile for agriculture. Vegetation like cactus n gando baval(prosopis juliflora) are an indication of low level of ground water and dry land. These are few natural factors that forced farmer labors to find other jobs rather than venturing into farming and agriculture. As compared to other districts in Gujarat, Surandranagar is at higher level with respect to mean sea level.
This is one such region where migration is maximum towards city and peripheral areas. But the importance of land holdings has not been lost. Mythological reason of BHOGAVO not being suitable for sufficient irrigation has also believed to force people to leave the area. This is one reason why land lords or rich farmers adopt cultivating cash crops over food crops tht gives instant earning. We saw Gaubens family cultivating BT cotton crop, cumin and musturd seeds as well as wheat on certain fortions on land with forder for cattle on boundries.
Before getting drip irrigation through AKRSP funding, flood irrigation was used where the water which could be used for 6 bhiga was used for only 2 bhiga.

SOCIAL ISSUES
There are flaws in the implimentation of the policy of NREGA. For eg. Instaed of 100 rs. The villagers get only 63 rs. This is just one such exploitation. Such kind of explotation are found in cotton farm where only only women but also children are encouraged to help during harvest season.
