The councillor is a hard worker. She has been working with the community on health and social welfare issues. She is a dedicated someone who do not need to be supervised in her day to day community work. She is a good planner, organiser, controller and leader.

What role has the leader played in championing gender and GBV activities?

As a woman who has more information on GBV, she played a big role in organising women and men in her community and sensitised them, she also helped women to be brave and speak out if they are abused. More women are seen to be able to initiate for changes in their families without fear. She has been engaged in campaigns that promotes women movements.

How has the leader influenced the level of buy in and involvement of management in issues of gender and GBV?

Being in an influential position, Makhosazana has been able to shed light to other leaders to be part of life changers particularly on GBV issues. Changes have been seen as now more understand Gender issues and their commitment is increasing.

Being known she started as a Rural Health Motivator (RHM) she went on to be trained on Home Based Care (HBC) and now she is the Councillor and Ngwenya Town Board. Going through all these stages and visiting people from door to door has made even most reserved to talk.

What time does the leader devote to this work? Is it paid or voluntary

It is voluntary work, Government used give them an allowance but due to financial constraints it was stopped. But because of the love of the people especially those with chronically illnesses, some need counselling, she then took it upon herself that she will continue to do her job.

How has the leader helped to popularise gender and GBV activities and initiatives in the workplace?

The leader has advocated in different forums, from the top (leaders) to the bottom (community) and viseversa. Cases of abused women and girls have decreased since then.

What results/impact have been achieved and how can these be linked to personal contributions of the leader?

The decrease of abused women is an impact. Being an outgoing person who is sociable to everyone young and old, being down to earth, she is also a good listener and adviser, she welcomes peoples ideas. These are the factors that have made changes to peoples lives.

Councillor Makhosazana took part in many campaigns that advocated for women. She took part in the Vote for a Woman (Khetsa Make) regional campaign in Swaziland. The campaign was to capacitate women to stand for elections in leadership position Members of Parliament (MP). Her involvement opened eyes to many women.
