I. Why we help our children to readour intention.

Why we help our children to read? Lets learn from the Quran
Beginning of Surah; Iqra' - Read - gain knowledge.
End of Surah- Wasjud waqtarib - prostrate and gain closeness [to Allah] worship is based on knowledge. Worship is done when you gain knowledge and understanding. And knowledge should become action which gets you close to Allah. Therefore we help children to read so that they can gain knowledge and understanding about themselves and this world and in so doing they will know the reasons behind their existence that they do not exist for their benefit but also to be beneficial to others. As this is the command in the Quran. Thus with the knowledge gained they will utilise it for the benefit of mankind and nature or the environment surrouding them.

In a recent International Reading Association (IRA) position statement the organization took a stance supporting phonics within a whole-language program. In "The Role of Phonics in Reading Instruction," the IRA maintains that: "The teaching of phonics is an important aspect of beginning reading instruction.

"Early, systematic, explicit phonics instruction is an essential part, but only part, of a balanced, comprehensive reading program," maintains John J. Pikulski, IRA President. The conclusion is no one approach to teaching reading and writing is best for every child.
