Lavumisa is a rural and high traffic border town linking Swaziland and Northern Kwa Zulu Natal. The area has been devastated by drought over the past 10 years which has left the people in a very poor state. There is no economic activity hence the unemployment level is high. This has resulted to poverty, sex trade resulting to people dying of AIDS related illnesses. A number of efforts have been put in place to support the vulnerable groups in the town but all of them are proving to be futile. These factors minimize the efforts to support the people living with HIV, to fight GBV and other related problems in the town and to improve the standard of living

This issue is very important because lack of employment or commercial activities renders the people to become vulnerable in the process some resort to sex trade which leads to HIV infection.

Support groups were established in the town for the people living with HIV and sex workers. Provide support and engage them in income generating activities i.e. Car wash and Poultry farming. Capacitate them on skills development Educate on the prevention of HIV and other transmissible disease

The project is ongoing so that the people involved are empowered and receive ongoing support in order for them to cope with their HIV status and support both their families and the affected families.

Support groups\PLWHAs and Commercial sex workers, Organizations working on HIV/AIDS related issues such as LATICC, MSF, the local clinic have been partnered with. Both women and men are equally involved in the project because they have the same agenda.

Poultry Project- Financial support was sourced from the Regional Development Fund. Land was provided by Lavumisa Town Board and AMICAALL assisted in drafting the project proposal. Car Wash Project- AMICAALL drafted and presented a project proposal to Mr. M Webb a missionary from Norway who is also the founder of NATICC and he provided financial assistance. All the projects are implemented by members of the support groups LATICC,MSF and LTB

Drama is sometimes used to popularise the issue because the members of the support groups are also trained in drama. Print media is also used to popularise the issue.ie National Newspapers, Pamphlets

The AMICAALL office also conducts visitations to the projects and assists the group members in refresher courses and monthly meetings.

AMICAALL & LATICC assisted the group members to formulate a schedule so that they all participate in the projects.

Car Wash Project- LATICC is responsible for monitoring and reporting to the AMICAALL office.
AMICAALL upon receipt of report then take necessary action i.e. in the purchasing of material to be used in the car wash.

Members are now having spending money to buy their basic needs and to support their families. Members also support children of other bed ridden members or deceased. Members are now able to educate their children. i.e. transport ,books Some Members are now volunteers in the different organizations working within the area.

Women and men involved in the support groups benefit equally in the sense that they get money through selling their products and providing service. The support group members also support their families and children of the other members who have died and those that are bedridden.

The sustainability of these projects lies in the hands of the Support Group members and the two organisations (AMICAALL,LATICC).
Reliable markets needs to be solicited because they will also contribute to the sustainability of the projects especially the poultry project. Provision of refresher courses for group members.

Support to people is also a remedy because these support groups support their families and other destitute people. Don't be judgemental to a person without knowing him or her closely so that you can understand reason(s) why he or she is in that position.
