Discussion
Good is the enemy of great. And that is one of the key reasons why we have so little that becomes great. We dont have great schools, principally because we have good schools. (Good to Great, Jim Collins) Oklahoma has long enjoyed the status of the best career and technology education system in the country, maybe even the world. Its hard for us as a system to see that we might need to change because we are so good at what we do. What is the purpose of your school improvement plan and how did you come to pick the purpose?

The economy is global. Market competition is fierce. Businesses innovate. Technology advanced. Workplaces adapt. Individuals create and participate. Jobs and lives change. This is the way of the world in the 21st century: Dynamic, Creative, Diverse, Complex, Fast-Paced (Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21)). What is your school doing to develop and implement both academic and technical curriculum that engages 21st century learners?

Discussion
Under the Obama administrations blueprint, state
accountability systems will set a high bar for all students graduating from high school ready to succeed in college and careers. The accountability system also will recognize and reward [schools] that are showing improvement getting their students on this path, using measures of progress and growth (U.S. Dept of Education, 2010). Describe the performance-based accountability measures that your school has implemented through the school improvement process.

Discussion
In the context of education, data is a synonym for information. Data can be words, numbers, or observations that are collected systematically, usually for a specific purpose. Instructional leaders must encompass articulating the rationale for teachers' use of particular types of data to improve student achievement." (California Department of Education, 2008)

Describe the process that you are using to review data from your school improvement plan.

Discussion
"The school's culture dictates, in no uncertain terms, "the way we do things around here." Ultimately, a school's culture has far more influence on life and learning in the schoolhouse than the state department of education, the superintendent, the school board, or even the principal can ever have." (Professional Learning Communities at Work, 2008)

Describe that impact of your school culture on your school improvement plan.
