Prepared by: Adam Haziq Shahrezza Jeffry Fadhil Laudhin Muhd Ghulam Jonny Engkal

Maslows Hierarchy of Needs is a theory of psychology proposed by Abraham Maslow in his paper 1943 A Theory of Human Motivation. This hierarchy suggests that people are motivated to fulfill basic needs before moving on to other needs.

WHAT IS MEAN BY HIERARCHY????

Hierarchy is a system organization in which people or things are divided into levels of importance. Maslows hierarchy of needs is most often displayed as a pyramid. According to the hierarchy of needs, a person has five fundamental needs: physiological, security, affiliation, esteem, and self-actualization.

PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS

These include the most basic needs that are vital to survival, such as the need for water, air, food and sleep. Maslow believed that these needs are the most basic and instinctive needs in the hierarchy because all needs become secondary until these physiological needs are come together. In employees perspective, a working environment, salary that assures that these needs are satisfied can positively influence the employees.

SAFETY NEEDS

This group of need covers personally safety, employment security, health and property. This segment is very important. If employee is not feel safe in the future of his job, his morale will decrease. Furthermore, if employee feels that his health and life are not safe at work, than it is not reasonable to expect the optimal performance of such employee. The employer needs to take care about basic safety elements, in order to satisfy employee safety needs.

SOCIAL NEEDS

This group contains the need of belonging to group, family and sexual contact. From perspective of employer, building of friendly environment that builds the team spirit is the way of satisfying this need of employees. That will raise employees satisfaction.

ESTEEM NEEDS

It covers self-esteem, achievements, selfconfidence and mutual respect. The employee that is appreciated and that appreciate others, the one that feel that his work is contributing to the company and his career will be motivated in his job.

SELF-ACTUALIZATION NEEDS

This levels contains the morale, creativity, openness and clear mildness. In other words, the potential or capibilities available to some employees. People who strive for self-actualization accept themselves and use their abilities to the fullest and most creative extent in order to achieve the goals in the organization.
