The iPhone 4S retains almost all of the same design features as its predecessor, the iPhone 4. The front and back are both flat and made of glass. There is a camera on the back and the sides are stainless steel with metal buttons. It keeps the 3.5 inch (8.89 cm) screen of past iPhones with the "home" button at the bottom. The iPhone 4S comes in two colors, black and white. It is an amalgamation of a hand-held computer, cell-phone, GPS, digital/video camera, and music player into one device, powered by a rechargeable 1432mAh lithium-polymer battery. A version without a camera has been released for the Singapore Army, where cameras have been banned from army camps since 2007. The camera-less iPhones can be purchased by anyone, not just army corps.

In the United Arab Emirates, prices on release date had started with AED 8000+ (2178.35 US$). The prices then continued to drop from 8000 to 6000 and finally to 3000. Etisalat provides iPhone 4s with SIM Card for AED 2749. In India, the iPhone 4S was released by Airtel and Aircel on November 25, 2011. The pre-order was opened on November 18, with the lowest priced 16 GB model for 44,500, 50,900 for the 32 GB version and 57,500 for the 64 GB version. In Saudi Arabia, Jarir Bookstore started taking orders for the iPhone 4S in limited quantity in early November through its Facebook page with limited choices (no colour options). Although not an official launch, it was the first in the Middle East. An official launch of two Saudi company electronic retail stores, the Extra and Jarir Bookstore on their website was made simultaneous on the same day on November 13, 2011 finally accepting orders.
