Blood pressure (BP) is the pressure exerted by circulating blood upon the walls of blood vessels.
Blood pressure may be expressed as: Blood Pressure = Cardiac Output x Peripheral Vascular Resistance (PVR) Where Cardiac output isCardiac Output = Stroke Volume Heart rate
Blood pressure is measure by the reading of Systolic blood pressure and/or Diastolic blood pressure.
Category Hypotension Normal Pre-hypertension Stage I hypertension Stage II hypertension Systolic BP (mm Hg) <90 90-120 120-139 140-159 160 Diastolic BP (mm Hg) <60 60-80 80-89 90-99 100
Hypotension can be defined as either A sustained systolic blood pressure of less than 90 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or A sustained diastolic blood pressure of less than 60 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) Hypertension is defined as either A sustained systolic blood pressure of greater than 140 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or A sustained diastolic blood pressure of greater than 90 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg)
Without these, heart rate and stroke volume which are related to cardiac output, blood volume, capacitance of the venous system are also related to the blood pressure.

Hypertension may occur secondary to other disease processes Essential hypertension (90%), a disorder of unknown origin affecting the blood pressure regulating mechanism Family history of hypertension increases the chance of develop hypertensive disease. Blacks are four fold more susceptible to hypertension than Whites. Age and obesity

It occurs more often among middle-aged males than among middle-aged females. Stressful lifestyle Diet such as high dietary intake of sodium, fat etc. Smoking and tobacco products.
Blood pressure Cardiac output and peripheral vascular resistance These two are controlled mainly by two overlapping control mechanisms:
1.
The baroreflexes, which are mediated by the sympathetic nervous system, and The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
2.
Detected by baroreceptor
Cardiovascular center
Decrease PVR
Vasodilatation
Baroreceptors in the kidney respond to reduced arterial pressure and to sympathetic stimulation of - adrenoceptors by releasing the enzyme renin. By this process kidney provides a long term control of blood pressure by altering the blood volume.
Blood pressure problem is considered to be very serious health problem in present day world that can cause heart disease and increase the risk of stroke. This problem is termed as the silent killer. The unfortunate reality is that more than half of the people taking multiple drugs for this problem, cannot manage their condition to a normal level. The good news is that over 85% of those who have this problem can normalize their blood pressure naturally through lifestyle modifications.
1.
Intake of Na+ Salt: Low sodium intake and greater sodium loss or high sodium intake can affect the blood pressure.
2.
No increase PVR
3.
4.
Increase PVR
5.
Water of coconut: Green coconut water is a very effective natural medication for normalize blood pressure, but contraindicated to the hypotension patients.
Decrease Na+ & water retention Decrease blood volume
Increase K+ concentration
6.
Lose extra weight: By maintaining required weight according our height can normalize blood pressure. Produce extra pressure on blood vessels Produce vasoconstriction Increased PVR Increased blood pressure
Extra weight
7.
Antioxidant: An antioxidant, help to stabilize cell activity by reducing in blood pressure by maintenance decrease vasoconstriction.
Examples: Vitamin C: Active compound is NO, act against constricted blood vessels. Grape Seed Extract: Active compound is Proanthocyanidins, 20folds more potent than Vit.C Olive Leaf Extract: Active compound is Oleuropein, reduces LDL cholesterol.
Garlic: Garlic has achieved a legendary reputation as an antihypertensive medication. It's been used in China for centuries for that purpose, and the Japanese government officially recognizes garlic as a blood-pressure depressor. American scientists first tried garlic against high blood pressure in 1921. Garlic activate nitric oxide synthase and increase the Nitric oxide level in the body and Nitric oxide work against constricted blood vesseles. Contraindication: Garlic can reduce the ability of blood clot.
8.
Increase NO level
Decrease vasoconstriction
Decrease PVR
9.
Vitamin D: A lack of vitamin D can increase blood pressure by increase synthesis of parathyroid hormone.
Increase vessels walls thickness Vasoconstric tion Increase PVR
Synthesis of PTH
Produce 1,25-(OH)2 D

Apples: Apples contain potassium and phosphorus and are low in sodium. Apples with honey have long been used for to reduce blood pressure problems. Papayas: Half a papaya has more vitamin C and potassium than an entire orange. Cucumbers: Cucumbers are a good source of potassium, phosphorus and calcium as well as being a good diuretic.
