Dr. Martin Luther King:

About him...
Martin Luther King Jr. was born in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. was the son of a Baptist minister. In Howard Gardners book, Leading Minds, King described his childhood.

He grew up in his fathers footsteps and got his bachelor of divinity in


1951 and his doctorate in 1955. In 1964, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace

Prize for his work to end racial segregation and racial


discrimination through civil disobedience and other nonviolent means. King's efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. There, he expanded American values to include the vision of a color blind society, and established his reputation as one of the greatest orators in American history. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Transformational leader
The concept of transformational leadership was initially introduced by leadership expert and presidential biographer James MacGregor Burns. According to Burns, transformational leadership can be seen when leaders and followers make each other to advance to a higher level of moral and motivation." Through the strength of their vision and personality, transformational leaders are able to inspire followers to change expectations, perceptions and motivations to work towards common goals Transformational leaders are generally energetic, enthusiastic and passionate. Intellectual simulation and consideration: Simulate followers to be creative/innovative by questioning assumptions, reframing the problems

Qualities of a transformational leader


Charisma. A transformational leader is one who has a clear vision for the organization and is able to easily communicate that vision to group members. Confidence. Is able to see what decisions will positively affect the organization. This gives the leader the ability to act confidently, inspiring trust in team members. Respect and loyalty. Respect and loyalty in individuals by taking the time to let them know they are important. Expressive praise. A transformational leader is often expressive in praising individuals and the team on a job well done. Letting them know how much they contributed to one success will steel them for future challenges. Inspiration. A transformational leader is a master at helping people do something they weren't sure they were capable of doing.

His works :
Inspired by Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolence, King promoted nonviolent tactics for social change such as the massive March on Washington (1963) King's main legacy was to secure progress on civil rights in the United States, which has enabled more Americans to reach their potential. He is frequently referenced as a human rights icon today. His name and legacy have often been invoked since his death as people have debated his likely position on various modern political issues. King organized the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), which gave him a base to pursue further civil-rights activities. King wrote Stride toward Freedom (1958), Why We Can't Wait (1964), and Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community? (1967). His birthday is a national holiday, celebrated on the third Monday in January "I Have a Dream" is a 17-minute public speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered on August 28, 1963, in which he called for racial equality and an end to discrimination
