SIN
It is vitally important to start the demonstration by reminding women that Jesus told the crowds of women who actually saw him after he was scourged NOT to weep for him! Jesus did not want their tears then and he doesn't want their tears or pity now! Remind them that Jesus asked his followers to remember his body broken for them! His blood poured out for them! He did the hard part all he asked us to do was understand what he did!!! There are great benefits available to those who understand the death of Christ. God has demonstrated to all of us how much Jesus and His Father God SO loved the world. If you really want to catch glimpses of the length, and the breadth, and the height, and the depth of the love of Christ we MUST really look at the high price "The King of Kings" was willing to pay for us. Why is that you rarely hear Christians bragging about Jesus great strength, great courage, iron will, and incredible self-control and GREAT love revealed throughout His arrest, trial, torture and death? Is not enduring the worlds MOST EXCRUCIATING TORTURE AND DEATH when he could have stopped it -- worthy of honor and praise? (Matt 26:53, John 18:6, John 10:18)
The person to be scourged was stripped of his clothing and tied to a post. The roman soldiers repeadedly strike the victims legs, back, and buttocks with full force. Lacerations cut into the underlying muscles and rip the overlaying skin off the back. The capillaries and veins were often torn causing intense bleeding, and at times causing the intrails to be exposed.
If the victim had a pulse and they collapsed, the beating continued. Until the centurion in charge determined he prisoner was near death. The Jewish Law was 39 lashes,in case there was an error in counting. The Romans had no number of blows which could be administered.
There were usually 1-6 soldiers called lictors, who administered the blows.
