I am an 18 year old coach who has recently completed my level 1 qualification.

In the future, I hope to complete my masters coach qualification for coaching children in the sport of football and become a full-time coach.

The first thing I will need to do to make sure I am fully qualified is to join Sports Coach UK by registering for a full membership, which will cost 85 a year which can help me with my qualifications and get me the best training available. This membership includes network and standard memberships, as well as Protection with specialist insurance and legal advice. This insurance package has been carefully developed to give you the protection you need and includes a number of new enhancements to the cover. You can also download the complete policy to fully understand the membership.

During Stage 2, I would get a CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) check to make sure I am able to work with children. I would get a form from the company. This is required before I go further in my qualifications.

For this next step, I will need to get some first aid training in case someone gets injured. The First Aid for Sport CPD for Coaches course would fit this requirement. The award for this course is an Emergency First Aid in the Workplace Certificate (which is valid for 3 years). You can learn about the roles and responsibilities of first aiders, and how to deal with limb injuries, and spine injuries. It teaches the initial assessment of a casualty, treatment for Unconsciousness, bleeding, choking and performing CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation).

For this stage, I will access a copy of the Code of Conduct for coaches, which is accessible from the Sports Coach UK website or from http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/public/docs/co de-of-practice-for-sports-coaches.pdf. The document gives you information about all the points to help understand the coaching role fully. This ranges from key principles, to Implementation Issues (minimal isolation, behaviour etc.).

Next, I would pick a workshop which suits me. The Coaching Children And Young People workshop is the best bet because it is a workshop made to help coaches who coach young people, like I am. The workshop teaches everything you need to know about childrens physical growth, social and emotional development and early skill learning.

For this stage, I will go to the next level for my coaching, the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football (QCF), which is for anyone over the age of 16 and is for anyone who would like to develop and improve their football coaching skills. It is used as part of the requirements for amateur football clubs and schools to achieve the appropriate FA Charter Standard accreditation. Requirements would be; a minimum emergency first aid certificate, attended the FA workshop Safeguarding Children in Football, which I have done in the previous stage.
